Where does the  golden Duckie symbol originate?

The Golden Duckie Awards

The Village Integrated Service Agency  proposes that members be recognized and rewarded for their impressive achievements in overcoming the debilitating effects of mental illness and integrating into the Long Beach community.  One way that the Village has given this recognition was through a "Member Recognition Night". The event was an Academy Awards style celebration (including a red carpet entrance and a limo parked outside for people to take pictures in front of) focusing on the many Village success stories.

The purposes of the event were: 1) To instill hope and inspire people with mental illnesses and their families to fully realize that positive change and recovery are possible with appropriate supports and medications. 2) To educate members, families, professionals and the public about the Village mission. 3) To challenge the continued, pervasive stigma about mental illness that perpetuates the destructive myths that people with mental illnesses cannot achieve, cannot assume productive roles and cannot take their rightful place in the community.

Since its opening in 1990, the Village ISA has strived to fulfill its mission of reintegrating adults with psychiatric disabilities into the community.  Significant numbers of Village members have successfully returned to work; to school; to a social life, to their family and to independent housing. This has been accomplished through the provision of an innovative array of supportive and rehabilitative wrap–around services.
