The following is a menu that members of the Village are given so that they can determine which Employment option they would like to pursue.  There is free choice of any option from the menu at any point in time; there are no prerequisites and there is no required or defined "step-structure" 

Employment Menu

 

Appetizers

(All options replace traditional pre-vocational requirements with actual employment experiences/assistance)

 

Work- for- a- day: Work in a Village owned business for one shift. Meet co-workers, accomplish tasks, survive failure, become needed, try on a non-disabled role. You will get paid in cash at the end of the day.

 

Casual Labor:

 

Work in the community for a time-limited period to accomplish a specific task for minimum wage and above.

 

Resource Center: Access an array of help in the process of getting a job. Resources include help with resumes and interviewing, assistance with applications, a clothes library, voice mail answering service, SSI/SSDI information, daily newspaper, etc.

 

 

Main Courses

(All main courses include standard expectations, high support, and natural consequences)

 

Seasonal Work: Jobs that become available only at certain times of the year. These are usually entry level and time or season limited (i.e. bell ringers for the Salvation Army, flower delivery on Valentines Day)

 

Group Placements: Multiple jobs made available in one community location. Comes with the security of working with people you know. On site job coaching may or may not be included.

 

Transitional Employment: Jobs in a community setting that are "owned" by the Village. Gain work experience for a period of months.

 

Lease Labor:  The employer contracts with the Village to pay you and handle all personnel matters.

 

Agency Run: Village-run business include Deli 456, the Mini-Mart, clerical support, maintenance. The businesses are real as are the expectations and the consequences. Candidates must apply, interview and get hired. Pay is minimum wage or above

 

Part time Community Employment: Competitive jobs that best match the interests, skills and experience of each worker with job market options.

 

Full Time Community Employment: Competitive jobs that best match the interests, skills and experience of each worker with job market options.
