FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
The Village recognize the important roles families play in the lives of
members and in advocating for new ways of delivering mental health
services in California.
Description
Ÿ Families are invited to assist in
developing members' Personal Service Plans, which detail the full range of
services each member needs to live, learn, socialize and work in the
community. A section of the plan is devoted to families.
Ÿ Staff is available to meet with
members and their families for solving problems and improving
communication.
Ÿ Families can reach the Village for
emergency concerns about members through a 24-hour hotline.
Ÿ At the annual Family Night, families
meet for educational presentations and networking.
Ÿ The Village encourages families to
join their local Alliance for the Mentally Ill chapter and provides
referrals to the nearest groups.
Ÿ Families are interviewed regularly as
part of the California Department of Mental Health's evaluation of the
Village.
Ÿ Families are represented on both the
Village's Advisory Board and the Mental Health Associations' Board of
Directors.
Impact
Ÿ The Village relieves families from
having to be case managers to obtain services for members, making it
possible for them to have a more regular parent/offspring relationship.
Ÿ By participating in the Village's
evaluation, families are helping to make integrated service agencies the
model for California's mental health system.
Ÿ Family perspectives are highly valued.
