Employment Services

How we Job Develop:

We engage the member, provide choices, provide assistance to get the job, and provide support to keep the job.

Example: Member A has been hospitalized several times in the last year with a psychiatric diagnosis. He continually hears voices. He did some small job for friends for short periods in the last year. He has not held a job, however. He lives and socializes primarily with his family. He has been very sheltered. He is frightened. Member A wants to work. Member A is ready to work!

The Job Developer:

  • Conducts a functional assessment.
  • Confirms with the team of member’s intentions and interests.
  • Identifies natural support in member’s life.
  • Goes into the community (often with members) to meet employers.
  • Brings back a number of job opportunities. If member is interested, help is provided by employment team and job developer to pursue the position:
1) resume writing
2) getting proper clothes
3) filling out applications
4) practice interviewing
5) transportation
6) and any other support that may be needed
  • Offers to go to the interview with the member.
  • Follows up with the employer to answer questions and find out the outcome of the interview.
  • Brings information back to the member and the team.

If the member gets the job, the job developer:

  • Clarifies the job description to the member and team.
  • Addresses any special needs the member has, and communicates with support person these needs (Examples: alarm clock, transportation, clothes, wake-up calls, hygiene, etc.)
  • Designs a plan with the team for ongoing job coaching and support needs.

If the member does not get the job, the job developer:

  • Gives the member feedback on why he/she wasn’t hired.
  • Asks the member their view on the experience: "Did you learn anything that you could improve for next time."
  • Makes any changes in plan to get another job.
  • Tries again.
