SUPPORTED HOUSING
At the Village, members are assisted in finding the housing of their
choice. The surrounding Long Beach community has a wide assortment of
living arrangements, including affordable apartments, board and care
homes, and sober residential programs.
Description
Ÿ Members select the type of housing
they want and need as part of their Personal Service Plan, which outlines
members' living, work, social and educational goals.
Ÿ The Personal Service Coordinator
advocates with the local Housing Authority for rent subsidies for eligible
members.
Ÿ Through the Village's Financial
Services, loans are available for security deposits and moving expenses.
Ÿ Personal Service coordinators provide
one-to-one training in living skills such as budgeting, shopping, cooking,
cleaning and landlord mediation.
Ÿ Social events, such as housewarmings
and card parties, organized by members and their neighbors, help reduce
loneliness and isolation.
Ÿ Village staff are available
around-the-clock to respond to crises.
Impact
Ÿ With support, members who have never
lived independently in their own homes are now able to do so.
Ÿ Members can have privacy and
permanence in their own apartments in the community.
