Employment Trainings

Primary Trainer/Consultant: Paul Barry

Title: "The Menu Approach to Employment"

Abstract:  Providing consumers with a menu of paid employment choices that offer a wide variety of work arrangements can create an alternative to lengthy and often endless pre-vocational training and preparation. An effective menu offers paid employment entrees in a wide range of environments from casual labor to group placements to agency owned businesses to part time and full time competitive employment. Paid "Work for a Day" can be included on the menu as an appetizer. Each of these options require that staff-time usually spent preparing consumers for employment is spent supporting them in the community instead.
