Directions to the Village

Established in 1994, the Village Integrated Service Agency Training Department is known and respected internationally as a first rate training institution, particularly in regard to the principles and practice of intensive case management based on recovery and integrated services. In addition to our own staff, we have trained individuals from around the United States, including programs in Alaska, Maryland, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Washington DC, Ohio, Florida, Nebraska, Oregon, Arizona and throughout California. From outside the United States, we have trained individuals from England, the Netherlands, Japan, and New Zealand, to name a few.

"Put Down the Ducky" by Sesame Street is the Village anthem.

The song is about Ernie's unsuccessful attempts at playing the saxophone while holding his Rubber Ducky.  Throughout the video, with the help of many highly entertaining characters (puppet as well as various cameos by celebrities who we will not disclose at this time...guess you will have to go rent the video), Ernie learns that he can play the saxophone by momentarily putting down the ducky.  Once he is done playing his instrument, he realizes that he can pick his ducky up again.

In 1990, when the Village was just starting, a consultant named Lucille Pritchard came to Long Beach and showed this video as an illustration of the importance of putting down the comfortable old ways of doing things in order to move on to newer more exciting and successful ways!

Dave Pilon, the Director of Outcomes for MHALA explains that "Every movement needs an anthem, and this one fits."
